Introduction to Airport @ de garden, Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia.

Much effort has been put into defining ‘globalization’ and yet the term remains as elusive as ever. New businesses surfaced, creating blue ocean ideals i.e: Budget airlines, have made traveling affordable, increased individual traveling, and thus increased individual knowledge and increased demands in every business sector.

In essence, it is used to refer to the rapid spread of culture, food, music, information, technology, ideas, goods and services, labor and capital across national borders causing the thick ‘walls’ that have for centuries gave meaning to sovereignty become porous and bringing the world closer in time and space.

The concept of AIRPORT arrived from the combination of Changi Airport, Singapore with an indoor

garden and its’ multiple departure gates serving passenger leaving to different part of the World.

Every Nation is talking about saving the world, stop cutting trees and preserving nature for the better of our next generation, therefore, the concept of having an indoor garden with Music, food & Lifestyle was put into reality.

As most of us are living in concrete jungle surrounded by high rise building and highways constructed over each other. Life is full of stress and having a garden in every city is everybody's’ dream.

The reception area represents the check in counter of the AIRPORT, while The Garden in AIRPORT

represent the lobby of the Airport serving food and providing lifestyle entertainment to the passengers waiting for departure. As each karaoke room (Vocal Cord) represent a country, therefore, the customers’ can either proceed to their room (destination) or hang around The Garden while waiting for their room to be ready.

The 7 karaoke rooms represents a country each, Oslo, Stockholm, Bangkok, Beijing, Copenhagen, Tokyo and Edinburgh. With its unique design, each individual room is decorated with each culture and influence together with a combination of food either serve in a tray similar of the aircraft, or with snack representing the country. The VIP karaoke room (Edinburgh) is designed to be a multi-purpose room which can be converted into a conference room for in-formal meeting or even a business center in the day.

The staff’s uniforms represent that of an air steward or stewardess, with the Manager in pilot and co-pilot uniform.

Entertainment will mainly be pop, retro and jazz on weekdays and high energy party and performance on the weekends.

The venue is designed to accommodate wedding function, product launching, mini concert and etc. The marketing team with a total of more than 30 years of experience put together, is capable of designing and choreographing top end show production for the clients.

With a giant billboard constructed along the North South highway (KL-Ipoh), Trendystar Sdn Bhd, the management of AIRPORT, is putting in it outmost effort in supporting tourism and encouraging healthy lifestyle entertainment. The management is also looking forward to provide employment opportunity to the locals who wish to explore into the F & B and entertainment industry.

AIRPORT is open daily from 5pm onwards serving dinner and snacks with a choice of local, regional and international food, together with a large selection of international beers, wines, liquors and cocktails.

Creation of Airport @ de garden

The Creation of Airport @ de garden, Ipoh, Perak

It has been a year since I last conceptualized, designed and constructed an entertainment outlet. The last been Oval @ de garden conceptualized in December 2009 and opened for business on February 2010.

Oval @ de garden

Oval spanning over a total floor area 2000 sq feet, the design and construction was rather simple. The name Oval arrived with the shape of the outlet, with a ceiling height of 25 feet and surrounded by glass from ground to ceiling, it was indeed beautiful creation.

The concept of Oval was to create a chilled out outlet with a lounge ambiance for those who wish to have a relax nite out over a drink or two yet be entertained with live performance.

With a biggest selection of local and imported beers, the first of its' kind in Ipoh, it was a gamble but it turn out to be an immediate success. With a total sitting capacity of 120 pax, Oval has a good turn out daily, from Monday to Sunday. Oval indeed gave me great confident and I was looking forward to building a bigger outlet with a new concept in order to bring Ipoh to the next level of entertainment.

The opportunity arrived when I was told of a availability of a 10,000 sq feet outlet and without second thought, I sized the opportunity and created a concept which house a concept within a concept outlet.

The New Venue

The layout plan was lay and I went into the designing of the outlet with the concept in mind. Gone were the days where entertainment outlets were focus on one direction, one business, a dance club or a bar or a karaoke.

With travelling made easily available, the budget airline has created "now everyone can fly" thus has increased the expectation of the customers. Their demands are higher when come to designs, food, entertainment, service and etc, thus bringing the entertainment industry to a higher level.

Work In Progress

Concepts within concept, I arrived with a concept that will house a dinning room, a bar, a stage, a dance area and karaoke rooms all under one roof. The process was rather tedious, as due to the layout of the area, lots of thoughts was spend on the detailing. The colors combination, the layout, the furnitures, the lighting, the sound and ..............

Final Touch

The construction period took about 45 days and I was going into the final stage, which is the final touch on the details. Due to the short rental free period, I fast track on the construction and supplier were forced to produce with super sonic speed. The final countdown was the worse time for any project that I have done since the 80's.


The final touch before the equipment arrived, sound engineers installing the sound system, lighting men installing the special effect lightings, sound men testing the karaoke system in the rooms, all came at once.

The Finished Product

Apart from the finishing touch, the setting up of the bar, the kitchen, the DJ equipments, testing of staffs uniforms, laying of furnitures .............. cleaning of the venue, training of the staffs ............ they were all done within 60 days. A final thumps up to all my fellow colleges ................ Well Done!

The Karaoke Room

The feeling of having nothing to the finished product was indeed a great achievement. The number of hours, the amount of hard work putted in after sleepless nights, it was really worst a celebration not for one but for all, all who have contributed to the final product.

The outlet opened its door for trial run on 21st September 2010 and the official opening was on 23rd September 2010.
